Dr. Derek P. Watson
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Dr. Watson is a Knightdale, NC native and North Carolina State University graduate who completed his medical education at Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He then completed his residency training at East Carolina University where he served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Watson is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). As a specialist in PM&R, Dr. Watson's focus is on restoring function and quality of life for patients suffering from disorders and injuries of the nerve, muscles, and joints (including the spine). Dr. Watson is specialty-trained in performing electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS).
He specializes in non-surgical treatment including physical therapy prescription, medication management, adaptive equipment assessments, botulinum toxin (Botox) injections for spasticity, soft tissue injections, and selective fluoroscopic guided lumbar spine injections.
Dr. Watson is an active member of the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation; the International Spine Interventional Society; the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists; and the North Carolina Medical Society.
Residing in Raleigh with his wife, Jennifer, and sons, Dale and Lane; Derek enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing sports, and supporting NC State student athletes through membership in the Wolfpack Club.
